Desert Safari – How to Conquer the Dunes

Desert Safari in Dubai was one of the things that was put on the: “must do list” for our travel experience. Dubai is a city build on desert and it is surrounded by it. The city lies directly within the Arabian Desert. So, it was an absolute must for us to try the desert safari. We couldn’t wait more for it, as it was supposed to be a super fun experience.

The Desert Safari in Dubai experience

Before our arrival in Dubai, we have booked every tour and every experience. If you want tot visit and do a lot of fun things, this is one way to stay organized and have everything planned. Desert Safari in Dubai was booked from Headout and it included: transportation, dune bashing, Bedouin show, beverages and dinner. We have opted for the afternoon tour, because the early morning tours doesn’t include dinner and the show.

Transportation

The driver came and picked us from the hotel at around 3 PM. In the car were already other two passengers, that would join us in the same tour. The transportation, on both ways, was included in the price.

From our hotel in Dubai, it was an approximately 60 min drive. You have to exit the city and head towards Abu Dhabi and somewhere along the road, you will turn left to reach the dessert. On the road we have been provided with water and the car was also very comfortable.

From the moment we entered the dessert, we drove for another 5-10 minutes, till we met with the other car.

The Desert Safari experience

The second car was a 4×4, a Toyota Land Cruiser. It was reinforced with metal bars in the interior.

After the pick-up, we drove for another 5 minutes, to reach the dunes. Honestly it was breathtaking. Seeing the dunes, for the first time, and admiring them, but also knowing what was going to happen. It was one of the most exciting and fun moments in this life.

The dune bashing experience is unforgettable. The adrenaline rush you will feel while drifting in the sand is unimaginable. It is like eating chocolate. After you’ll taste it, you’ll want more.

I have a security problem and every time I try something wild or new, I want to feel safe. The precaution that they took were great. We had X type of seat belts, that would hold us tight. I have never felt unsafe during the whole experience.

The show

After the dune bashing moment, we drove to the Bedouin camp. It was very well organized, clean and fun. The camp gave you a festival like impression. There were tents surrounding the main area. In every tent you have something to do. For me it was all about the henna paints. I’ve always wanted one and I’ve got it there. Toma has tried sandboarding for the first time.

The beverages and dinner were also included. The food was great and quite a lot. The incredible show that the Bedouins put together that night, was magical. It was the contrast that made the whole view. Just imagine a camp in the dessert, at night, with little lights. In the middle of the camp, they started dancing with lights and fire. The whole show was incredible.

After the show, at around 9:30 PM, we left the desert.

Do we recommend?

We do recommend it. If you are an adventure seeker, or just want to try something new and special, put the Desert Safari on your list. It is a one-of-a-kind experience. The whole tour was great and we did really enjoy it. In my personal opinion, if you want to enjoy it all, book the evening tour because it includes all the fun things. For us, Desert Safari in Dubai was very…Travelicious.
