Eating out in Rome

While travelling to Italy, one can only imagine the scene from “The Lady and the Tramp” animated movie, with them sharing a plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

In the land of pasta, gelato, limoncello and wine, no one can say that didn’t have a good meal. If you are a pasta lover, like us, you probably started drooling just by thinking about it.

The capital city of Italy, gathered the best of the best of the whole country in terms of food. Being populated by people coming from all parts of Italy and also other countries, its cuisine is made of traditional local and newly added recipes.

But, what to eat in Rome, to be sure you got the best of what this city has to offer in terms of food?

Pasta alla carbonara

Probably the queen of pasta, it is so popular worldwide, but so easy to destroy the recipe. It is traditionally made with guanciale and a combination of cheeses (pecorino Romano and parmigiano Reggiano) and it does not contain a single drop of heavy cream. It is delicious eaten here, where it’s rightful place is, in the heart of Italy, in the capital city.

Cacio e Pepe

The little sister of carbonara and one of the most popular pasta recipes in the area, Cacio e Pepe is delicious and fast. Its main ingredients are pecorino Romano and black pepper. This is a must try pasta recipe.

Pizza

Nothing compares to the pizza eaten in Italy. The perfect taste can only be found in the mother country. In Rome, you will find pizza recipes, combinations and style from all over the country. For pizza lovers that are in a rush and don’t have the proper time to sit and eat, here was invented the pizza al taglio.

You can buy just one slice of pizza if you want, or combine different pizzas. Don’t expect to buy a little pizza triangle, it will be a rectangular and quite big slice.

Gelato

Even though my personal favorite ice-cream is the Turkish one, Italian Gelato comes second. It is delicious and creamy. If you are planning to visit Rome in spring – summer times, an Italian Gelato for sure will give you a refreshing moment.

Maritozzo

Besides croissants (cornetti) of various types, one of the staples of roman pastry is the maritozzo. It is a sweet bread roll, filled with delicious whipped cream. Maritozzo is best served near a cappuccino, for breakfast.

The Italian cuisine is so wide and so delicious, that is best to take it region by region. For us, it gives some of the most delicious meals ever eaten and probably will not pass a single week, without eating some pasta. Being in Rome, we felt like in food heaven. In our opinion, food in Rome is delicious and…
