The Tricity, Poland

The Tricity is a metropolitan area in Poland. It is formed from three major towns: Gdynia, Sopot and Gdansk, alongside their suburban areas.

Our first stop is Gdynia. Poland’s largest sea port, was just a small fishing village until the 20th century. Since then, it became a modern city, visited each year by luxurious cruise ships. The city is bordered by the Baltic Sea, providing a beautiful coast line. On the continental extremities, the city is surrounded by hills.

Things to do

If you think about visiting Poland’s largest sea port city, you will have so much to do here. It is a kind of place that could easily go from a city break to a whole week spent here.

In Gdynia, first of all visit their amazing marina. To be able to get there, you will have to walk through the Kosciuszki Square. This is an incredibly beautiful square/park. The views there are incredible, no matter the season. In the marina, you will find a battle ship, dating from the WWII, that is now serving as a museum. For engineering and history lovers, Okret Muzeum ORP Blyskawica should be put on the must-see list. Near Okret Muzeum ORP Blyskawica, you can find another museum, this time is Dar Pomorza, that is a Polish sailing ship, build in 1909. In the marina, right in the middle, you can find a lot of restaurants, little shops and coffee shops to enjoy.

Nature lovers can spend some time in the beautiful Kępa Redłowska and Klif Orłowski. The first one is a natural reservation with an area of over 120 hectares. The Klif Orłowski is located inside the natural reservation. This whole area provides gorgeous natural beauty.

If you plan on visiting Gdynia in summer time, for sure you must try the beach. It is a really nice place to spend some time. Also, alongside the beach, you can find a lot of shops and restaurants.

Food

Gdynia’s abundance of restaurant, especially in summer time, will make it very tricky to make a decision regarding where should you eat. They have food for every taste and every visitor. The restaurants go from burgers and stakes, to Italian cuisine. The most important thing is: go for the Polish cuisine restaurants. It is unfortunate to visit this country and not taste their food.

Some incredibly good choices would be anything seafood. You are in the biggest sea port of Poland, near the Baltic Sea. Taste what this place is offering. Their salmon is delicious, as well as any other fish choice. For other polish food experiments, try their dumplings (Pierogi), Bigos (sauerkraut with meat) or Placki Ziemniaczane (the potato pancakes). For dessert, try some Makowiec (a poppy seeds cake) or Szarlotka (apple pie).

Transportation

Getting around in Gdynia is quite easy. The city is very walkable. It has a quite easy road system; each little street intersects a big street or boulevard.

They also have very good bus system, but if you are a little bit lazy, you can always take a cab or an uber. To reach the other cities in the Tricity area, you can take a train, that is very frequent, from Gdynia Glowna.

The airport that serves Gdynia is the Gdansk airport, it is the closest one. You can take an uber, cab or the train, from the airport to the city.

Accommodations

They have quite a big number of tourists in summer and to that number, you can add up a lot of people coming here for business. Being a modern city and the biggest sea port, a lot of business conferences and meeting are held here.

The accommodations ranges like in every major touristic city. They have from hostels, to big 5 starts hotels. The choice is yours.

For us, Gdynia was a beautiful surprise. It is an authentic city with a lot of lovely places to discover. Gdynia is …Travelicious.
