The unexpected Dominicus, the exact words that define our stay in this place. It was a beautiful surprise and now, a great memory. This town in Bayahibe, is one of the most amazing places we’ve seen in the Dominican Republic. We wanted more than Punta Cana, and exactly after our stay there, Dominicus came and surprised us.
It is the place of always smiling people and where fun was invented. This little town is the feel-good place of the Caribbean’s.
What was really like in the Dominican Republic?
Why in Dominicus?
When we’ve started planning our vacation in the Dominican Republic, we didn’t just want the obvious type of vacation, that everybody does in this amazing country. The Dominican Republic is more than a resort in Punta Cana. Of course, they are famous and preferred by so many, for a lot of reasons.
After a lot of research, we decided on a combination type of vacation, a mixture between an all-inclusive, city break and the explorer type. Dominican Republic is a country worth of exploring and discovering it, step by step.
Because we stayed for a longer period, one of our destinations was Dominicus, in the Bayahibe area. This exact place was very close to the departure points of the tours to Isla Saona and Isla Catalina. We wanted to be nearby, to save time on travelling and to enjoy more the days we are there.
Airbnb vs Hotel
After a whole week of relaxing at the resort in Punta Cana, for Dominicus we chose something totally different. The whole area is filled with Airbnb apartments and villas, mostly in condominiums. We have stayed in an amazing apartment, administered by a lovely lady. For us it was a 10/10.
The whole apartment was beautifully furnished, extremely clean and super cozy. The condominium had an amazing garden and two pools. It was a five-minute walk to the beach and the whole street is filled with markets, souvenir shops and restaurants.
What to do in Dominicus
I think, that in Dominicus, besides the tourists, you will find a few Dominicans. It is a big expat community there, that have their own businesses and a great life in the Caribbeans. At least, that is what they showed, from their always smiling faces. The main walking street, the one that is parallel to the beach, is where you will find shop after shop, tons of terraces and restaurants and tour agencies.
The public beach in this area is incredibly beautiful. The smooth sand contours perfectly the amazing turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. You won’t find lounge chairs; everybody stays on their beach towel. There are shops and beach bars, so don’t worry about food and refreshments.
What I’ve loved the most in this area, was that the people seemed always happy. They were having the time of their lives at the beach, always celebrating something at the restaurants and the barbecue culture was over the top. Every apartment terrace in every building had a barbecue station.

The beautiful surprise
For us, Dominicus was a great surprise. In our thoughts it was the perfect stay to make the islands tours. From a transit destination, it transformed itself in one of the most beautiful memories in the Dominican Republic. I think that the fact that we didn’t expect to enjoy this place so much, made it also more beautiful for us. All in Dominicus was perfect, from the amazing apartment, to the super fun beach and the wonderful surprise that this town was. For us, Dominicus, Bayahibe is extremely…Travelicious.
