Florence, the capital city of the Tuscany region, is one of the biggest and most developed cities in Italy. It is considered by many, as being the birthplace of the Renaissance. The renaissance period put a big mark on this city, and because of it, Florence became one of the biggest cultural, artistic and commercial centers.

The history and the people are the ones to make a place beautiful. When you think about Florence, instantly will pop in your head names like: David, Michelangelo, Medici or just: pasta, wine and great fashion.

The city of Florence is one of the 15 capitals of fashion, one of the places that has the best authentic cuisine and one of the rare places in the world, that screams art.

One of the keywords attached to Florence is art. The city was home for many important names, mostly in the renaissance era. Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Botticelli have left their marks deeply in this city and some of their most important works are displayed here.

The Uffizi Gallery is one of the most important museums in the world. It is the home for a collection of priceless and unbelievable works, from the renaissance period, from artists like: Michelangelo, Botticelli and Da Vinci.

This museum is worldwide known mostly for Michelangelo’s sculptures, that are displayed here. Some of his most famous works, that can be found in The Accademia Gallery, are: Prisoners, St. Matthew and the incredible statue of David.

Besides Michelangelo, some other important names in the art world from the renaissance period, have their works displayed here.

Everything that is presented, led us to the technology dominant world we are living in. Even though, the pieces displayed are from hundreds of years ago, their visionary minds were far away into the future.

Italian food is amazing and food in Florence is incredible. The Tuscan cuisine is based on the fresh ingredients that are available each season. Some notable dishes to try out in Florence are: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, that is their famous steak, Ribollita, a vegetable and bread soup and the Cantucci Biscuits, that are just amazing.

The Central Market of Florence is the best place to try out some of their amazing dishes. Of course, being a market, the main products for sale are the fresh ingredients every Italian wants for its food. You will have the opportunity to discover what a real market in Italy looks like and to taste their delicious food. Outside the Mercato Centrale, there are a lot of stands selling leather goods.

6. Santa Maria del Fiore

Or the Duomo in Florence, as most people know it, conquers the skyline of Florence. Besides its size, beauty and grandeur, Santa Maria del Fiore stands out by its history and for being an architectural masterpiece. It is the third largest cathedral in the world, that took 140 years to be constructed. The Dome was built in 16 years and his designer was Brunelleschi. Inside and outside, its beauty is unbelievable.

7. Piazza San Giovanni

It is located near The Duomo and it is a beautiful place to walk around. In the Piazza you can stop for a coffee, to admire the magnificent Dome or even for lunch. Also, the roads leading to it, are a joy just for walking around and even some shopping. The whole area is full with little shops and restaurants.

8. Piazza della Repubblica

Also, a lovely Piazza in Florence. It a big square, surrounded by shops, restaurants and has a fun addition to it. In the center of the Piazza, there is a beautiful carousel. You can grab a Gelato, sit on a bench and enjoy the view of the carousel and the piazza.

9. Ponte Vecchio

It is a 16th century arched bridge, over the river Arno. The bridge was built on the narrowest place of the Arno River, over an old Roman Bridge remainings. Besides its history, the bridge is famous for the shops built on it. Most of the shops sell jewelry, souvenirs and art.
