Unique Experiences to Have in Bali

Bali is unique and by itself is a whole experience. The Island of Gods became so popular, that somehow you will feel overwhelmed by the crowds in the quest of checking the “What to visit?” lists. Even though you will not get bored in Bali, sometimes you need something to get you out of your comfort zone and also to be lots of fun.

This is our Top Five list of unique and adventurous experiences to try in Bali:

  1. Cooking class
  2. Rafting
  3. Visit one of the monkey forests
  4. Stay in Sidemen
  5. Go to a Balinese spa

Go to a Cooking Class

Balinese food is one of the best things to enjoy in Bali. It is so good and also so different of what we are used to in the other parts of the world. What a better way to enjoy the Balinese food, than going to a cooking class?

The entire experience is as fun as it can possibly be. Of course, to be able to cook a perfect Balinese meal, you’ll need some fresh ingredients. The day starts with a visit to a local market, where you’ll discover all the fresh goods you’ll need. It is an exotic fruits paradise and for sure, you’ll grab more than needed. After some grocery shopping, you’ll gather the rest of the fresh ingredients directly from the back yard. (In our case, it was in front, on a field, somewhere between the rice terraces.)

The cooking class itself is a great experience, where you will learn how to prepare some of the most delicious and traditional Balinese meals. For the whole experience, we thank the guys from Green Kitchen Bali, that made sure we had the best day.

P.S.: at the end, you will eat what you have cooked.

Rafting in Bali

If you feel adventurous and thrive for that adrenaline rush, rafting is not something to miss. It is a super fun adventure on one of the main rivers on the island. The incredible sensation that you have, while trying to fight the water, bumping into rocks or going through a waterfall, has no comparison. Even though, at the beginning it felt scary as hell, at the end you’ll have the sensation that you’ll want more and more. The whole two and a half hours that we have spent on Tegala Waja River, passed instantly. The 18 km of rafting, had as a peak point, the 4 meters jump from a waterfall.

I cannot thank enough the guys from Green Adventure Rafting, for keeping us alive and making sure that we’ll want to repeat the experience.

Visit one of the Monkey Forests

For sure, everyone knows that the monkeys are important residents on this island. If you visit Bali, it is impossible not to see one. As, official residents on this island, the long-tailed macaques, have some official homes. The most famous is the Ubud Sacred Monkey Forest and Sanctuary, but little did we know, that this one is not the first ever opened on the island.

The first monkey forest, is the Sangeh Monkey Forest. Even though the one in Ubud is the most popular, in my opinion, Sangeh is more beautiful. In here, we actually went through a forest, incredibly clean and well maintained, with tall trees and monkeys all around them and us.

Stay in Sidemen

For us, Sidemen is the true heart of Bali. Here you will find the most beautiful and epic views, while enjoying the real Balinese way of being. The reality of Bali is represented by the incredible people, living on a surreal island, that is nicknamed the Island of Gods.

In my opinion, this nickname was not given because of the Hindu Gods worshiped on the island. I am sure that someone arrived in the Sidemen area and thought that only Gods are able to make something this beautiful.

The whole area is unbelievably beautiful. It is the heart of the island, surrounded by mountains, lush tropical forest, with views of the volcano. Sidemen is nature’s work of art.

Go to a Spa in Bali

The Balinese massage is worldwide known and since you are on the island, it is unforgivable not to try it. With prices as low as a McDonalds meal, we did relax and had a sensational experience, almost every day.

Spas are everywhere on the island and for sure, you will be tempted to enter one. They range from street spas, to super fancy ones, but no matter in which one you’ll enter, for sure you will spend some quality time relaxing.

For us Bali is a whole package of experiences, emotions and adventures, but all of them are so unique, that can only happen on this little piece of heaven. After exploring, visiting and living Bali, trying out all of these, were the cherry on top. As a mention, we have experienced rafting and the cooking class, in the Sidemen Area and we could not be more happy about it. Bali is incredibly…Travelicious
