The Northern Greece

The Northern Greece, although being underrated in comparison to some popular islands, it has so much to offer. It is one of the best places to explore. Here you have the perfect combination of crystal-clear water, amazing mountains and traditional towns and villages. Here is Greece, authentic and beautiful.

Along the coast line, there are towns and villages, one more beautiful than the other. The biggest city in this area is Thessaloniki, with a population of over 1 million. This major city, is reachable through Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia, the second biggest airport in Greece, with lots of connections and international flights.

The Northern Greece list

  1. Visit the island of Thassos
  2. Explore the amazing Kavala
  3. Eat incredible food
  4. Go snorkeling in Halkidiki
  5. Visit the beautiful and traditional Arnaia

Visit the Thassos Island

The Island of Thassos is a must in this area. The most spectacular thing about this island is that it doesn’t have a flat surface. The island’s highest peak is Mount Ypsarion, with an altitude of 1208m above sea level. Almost in every part of the island you will be granted amazing views. The entire island is surrounded by beautiful turquoise water, making it a perfect summer destination. Thassos has amazing beach sites, the most popular are: Golden Beach and Marble Beach.

There are two ways to enjoy this island. Option number one: you stay on the mainland and take a ferry ride to enjoy a day on the island. You can actually do a lot in a few hours, especially if you take your car with you.

Thassos Marina

The second option is to book a hotel or a villa on the island and spend a few days here. This place is not about just the water activities, but you can do a lot more. Hiking, exploring the beautiful villages, go to workshops and eat their amazing food.

Explore Kavala

Kavala is a small, traditional Greek town, in the northern part of Greece, very close to the Island of Thassos. Here you will have the chance to really blend with the locals, to feel the authenticity of the place and to explore a real Greek Town. The little taverns, the shops or even the weekly market, all of them will make you feel at home. If you really want to feel the energy of a place, go where the locals go. In Kavala, you don’t have to search for this type of experience. This little town, even though it provides an amazing tourism infrastructure, will let you blend with the locals. It gives you the feeling of belonging.

Eat incredible food

Greek food is Greek God level. The food tastes that delicious because it is only made with fresh, authentic ingredients. All the savory Mediterranean ingredients can be grown here and the Greeks know how to make use of it. Their cuisine should be the definition of perfect summer cuisine. When the temperature starts rising, nothing is better than a perfectly cooked Greek meal.

Going to Greece means eating Greek food. It should be illegal to try different cuisines, while being there. Explore every tavern, taste everything and enjoy every bite. Your belly will be happy and after all that swimming and roasting on the beach, you will need a little treat.

Go snorkeling in Halkidiki

The Halkidiki area provides some of the most amazing beach sites in the Northern Greece. If you really want to enjoy snorkeling in this amazing part of the country, go to Halkidiki. The coastal area is a combination of sand and rocky beaches. Where are rocks, there are fish. So, take your snorkeling gear and start swimming with your little underwater friends.

Visit the beautiful and traditional Arnaia

Go here!

I loved this little village so much, that I’ve dedicated a whole article about it:

Arnaia is an old town in the Halkidiki area, filled with history and tradition. Wandering the streets of this beautiful place is like going back in time, exactly in the 19th century. The houses and buildings have been preserved at their original state, exactly how they were in those years. They were built in the traditional Macedonian architecture from that era.

The Northern Greece

It is one of the most beautiful places in this country, with a very divers nature and incredible scenery. In summer months, it is a great option, as the temperature will not be as high as in the south. There is so much to do, to explore and to enjoy in this area of the country. For us, it is very…Travelicious.
